Creativity has always been central to my identity, ever since I was a toddler. I used to spend hours making tiny paper models of houses and furniture, creating sculptures from wax cheese casings, drawing, painting, weaving, and crafting. My parents are also creative people and always supported my artistic efforts. My goals in life are to keep developing my artistic skill and pursue my creativity, and to find a way to turn that into something useful or helpful to offer back to the world. That’s why I plan to get a Fine Arts degree followed by an Education degree and become the kind of artist and art teacher who supports and inspires the next generation of young people in discovering their own creative vision. This plan requires five or six years of university education, with all of the hard work and expense that that entails. With very little in the way of savings or financial resources, an award like the Helen Woo Scholarship would help immensely with making these goals a reality.
