The emotional and financial burden on families is very difficult. Although I’ve been prevented from a lot of opportunities because of the constant involvement needed to combat CF, I have not let my health issues hold me back from learning, growing, and pursuing a future.
As a kid, I loved to create. Drawing and building with LEGO were some of my favorite activities and helped me get through difficult times in my childhood. It’s hard to explain to a second grader why he has to spend another three days in the hospital or why he feels like he’s broken, but he can make more sense of the world with LEGO Batman by his side. Over time, my interest in art changed and evolved, like every kid’s hobbies. In high school, a volunteer was needed to design Shakespeare theater programs. That opportunity inspired my love for graphic design, which is what I now want my career to be in. I enjoy stories and the way communication proceeds over art, music, theater and more. Design is storytelling.
