Welcome! The Academy of Special Dreams Foundation is honored to have artist Nicole Wierimaa as part of the Academy Family.
About the Artist:
My interest in photography stems from high school. I took a photoshop and photography class and completely blew my teacher away with the work that I was submitting. He recommended that I enroll in a Graphic Design course at my local college. Since I had no idea what I would do after high school, I applied and blew those teachers away as well. I had achieved a 4.0 gpa.
Photography has been a passion of mine ever since. It brings me peace and I am able to share my perspective of the world with others. Being a naturalist, I try to keep my photos as natural as possible and if they are altered, I add that to the advertisement in a way that isn’t hidden. I want people to understand what they are getting and keep their expectations for their own photos understood.
Being an artist with disabilities helps me stand out and show the world that I exist in the best way that I can speak. I have ADHD and PTSD among others, but these two are my biggest weights. It can be really hard for me to try and fit in a box like the education system tries to put us in. Being an artist makes me feel like I can still fit in the box somewhere.
