James Ruiz
James Ruiz was raised in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains in California’s Central Valley but throughout his adult life has lived in and traveled to other parts of the world. As he explains, his music has been the one constant in his life: “Music is my pathway to learning about the world in which we live. All the things that really matter in this world truly lie within our own hearts, souls and spirits, and in my case I try to express these in my songs. I remember many moments when I was younger that to this day still seem like they happened yesterday. These weren’t moments of hatred or despair but rather simple things that touched my soul. Nature’s gifts such as the current of a river that glistens against the twilight sky, a sunset that literally takes your breath away as it cascades over the horizon only to disappear leaving you longing for more, or a summer’s breeze that makes you close your eyes like the embrace of your first kiss. Emotions and feelings like these fill me so much so that I need to express them through my songs – love, joy, tenderness, caring, inspiration, but also the flip side of despair and sorrow. All I know is that I feel a sound that flows from within my soul which I want to share with those I know, have known and will know. My song, Let Me, sums this up nicely, “Let me love, let me live, let me show this world what I can give, let me dream a dream, and have no fear…”"

Thanks for the extraordinary effort last night to share your wonderful music with us at the Vive The Special DREAM Exhibition 2009 at Alhambra High School Library. Your passion for music is an inspiration to me (and no doubt to the many others who have heard you sing and perform).
You’re the best, my brother!
