A Dream Concert! Congratulations.
The Academy of Special Dreams Foundation first annual “Vive The Special DREAM Concert 2011″ hosted by Alhambra High School at its beautifully remodeled school auditorium. This concert entitled “A Musical Explosion of the Senses” featured live performances by several fledgling musicians with disabilities playing a variety of musical numbers. Monte Negro, a popular Latin alternative music band, in addition to local musicians James Ruiz, Alissa Monte, Galanis, Angel Gomez, Rick Perez and the Alhambra High School Jazz Band, showed their support and encouragement of the special needs community.
Preceding the concert the Academy of Special Dreams Foundationl awarded college scholarships and working artists grants to six talented “artists in residence.” Featured artists Martin Vogel, Jhovana Cecena, Tom Doyle, Oscar Cresterna and Todd Tostado displayed several of their original works of art in the foyer of the auditorium. The art work of each of these “artists in residence” is also showcased at the Academy’s website, www.specialacademy.org.
“We are proud of our continued collaboration with Alhambra High School and appreciate its support in furthering our mission to increase public awareness, appreciation and recognition of the creative talents of people with disabilities,” said Michael Dergar, President and CEO of the Academy of Special Dreams Foundation. ”Vive the Special DREAM Concert 2011 was another opportunity for us to encourage, promote and showcase the artistic expressions of these amazing musicians. We also give many thanks the Woo Education Foundation, Helen Woo, Lina Lijean, Kristian Batiste, Jackie Ding, AHS Christmas Committee and Jessica Castillo for their on-going financial contributions to the Academy that help us make all of this possible.”
