Bringing Awareness to Artists in the Special Needs Community

The Academy of Special Dreams Foundation first annual “Vive The Special DREAM Concert 2011″  hosted by Alhambra High School at its beautifully remodeled school auditorium.  This concert entitled “A Musical Explosion of the Senses” featured live performances by several fledgling musicians with disabilities playing a variety of musical numbers.  Monte Negro, a popular Latin alternative music band, in addition to local musicians James Ruiz, Alissa Monte, Galanis, Angel Gomez, Rick Perez and the Alhambra High School Jazz Band, showed their support and encouragement of the special needs community.

Preceding the concert the Academy of Special Dreams Foundationl awarded college scholarships and working artists grants to six talented “artists in residence.”  Featured artists Martin Vogel, Jhovana Cecena, Tom Doyle, Oscar Cresterna and Todd Tostado displayed several of their original works of art in the foyer of the auditorium.  The art work of each of these “artists in residence”  is also showcased at the Academy’s website, www.specialacademy.org.
